Small scenes of childhood have made M.I. Hummel figurines a familiar presence in collectors’ homes for generations.
The artist behind the name
Berta Hummel was a German artist whose drawings captured children with warmth and personality. After entering religious life, she took the name Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel in 1933.
From drawings to figurines
Goebel introduced the first Hummel figurines in 1935. Sculptors translated the artist’s drawings into three-dimensional designs, preserving the gestures and expressions that gave the original artwork its appeal.
A tradition of craftsmanship
The figurines are associated with Rödental, Germany, where Hummel’s manufacturing tradition continues. Modeling, ceramic production, and hand painting bring the designs to life.
Collecting a personal story
Some collectors choose musicians, angels, or seasonal scenes. Others look for a figurine that recalls a family member or childhood memory. A collection can begin with one meaningful piece and grow around the stories you love.
