Every figurine has a story. If you are trying to identify a piece you own, begin with its base and a few clear photographs.
Start with the markings
Carefully support the figurine and inspect the underside in good light. Record the model or HUM number exactly, including any letters or size suffixes. Also photograph the manufacturer’s trademark and any other numbers, signatures, or labels.
Compare the complete figurine
Match the number with the subject, pose, accessories, and size. Measure the height and note distinctive details such as an umbrella, musical instrument, or animal. A similar-looking figure is not necessarily the same model.
What the numbers tell you
A model number identifies a design; it is not a unique serial number for every figurine. An impressed year can relate to the model’s development rather than the year your particular piece was produced. The manufacturer’s mark helps narrow the production period.
Before you buy or sell
Look for chips, cracks, missing details, and repairs. Keep photographs and purchase records together. Identification alone does not establish authenticity or market value.
